The Repression Continues!

This gig was supposed to be held yesterday (11th November) in Kuala Kangsar; but it was cancelled about a week earlier. The reason given by the organisers on their MySpace page and buletins is this:

“(This) event yang sepatutnya berlansung hujung minggu ini terpaksa dihentikan kerana campurtangan dari pihak Polis, Jabatan Agama dan pihak Istana Perak. Mereka telah menentang event ini sekeras2nya. Kami cuba menjayakan jua tapi apakan daya the law is not on our side.�

In English: “The event which supposed to be held this weekend had to be cancelled due to the involvement of the Police, the Religious Department and the Perak Royal Palace. They all have forcibly gone against the event. We tried our best to make it happen but what are we to do, the law is not on our side.�

If you would click on the image and look at the bigger pop-up, you will see this “disclaimer� on the top-left side: “No Drugs, No Alcohol, No Violence, No Racism, This Is Not Black Metal�. I guess all of that didn’t stop the authorities from killing the show. I think they didn’t even have the courtesy to read all of that.

You can append any sort of disclaimer all you want; no this, no that, etc. but do you really think they would listen? Do you really think they would even hear you “squeak�? You are all tiny people with no redeeming factors at all. They DO NOT have an iota of respect for you, let alone look at you as a human being. I don’t think so. That is unless you’re a “Dato�, an ASP, a well-known and successful businessman, and all those people who are on the upper echelons of society. Basically you’re shit and that’s it.

So what is it that these people in power are against? I think it’s very simple; “rock music�. Not even punk, hardcore, metal, grunge or whatever genres you have tagged. It’s “rock� therefore it’s “BAD�!

They are also against another thing; “young people�.

“Young People� equals “stupid, naive animals that have the tendency to do all the bad things�, so they “have to� “save the youth� from all the “sins� lah; as if every single one of them is free from any sort of moral corruptions, ethical glitches or misadventures! What a laff!

And since “young people� meeting “rock music� is equal to “the ultimate sin�, they have to be the MORAL POLICE lah, the GUARDIAN lah, and forcibly stop young people from being creative and play MUSIC! STOPPED FROM PLAYING MUSIC! Hahahah! How ridiculous is that? I mean, this far beyond rational thinking really. It has gone into another farcical dimension altogether; this is Monty Python territory already: the best absurdist humour! And it’s not even a joke!

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! When will these people grow up eh?”
